Christmas Letter 2011

Read our past Christmas newsletters

Friends, family and everyone in-between,

I want to first apologize for once again resorting to using the internet for sending our yearly Christmas letter. Like responsible human beings, Krystle and I have been consistently contributing to our stamp budget throughout the year. Last week however, when I broke the piggy bank, I found only a few pennies and a note that stated: “needed coffee” I have not yet figured out who culprit is, but I have a sneaking suspicion.

Speaking of apologies, I also did not write a Christmas letter for 2010….which can only mean that nothing of interest happened that year….or I was too busy grieving the end of LOST to be bothered writing a letter…I guess we’ll never know.

For me, 2011 started off with a bang when I attempted and completed my first half marathon. It was a very rewarding experience, and I hope to repeat it again in 2012. In July I packed my bags, hopped on a plane and met up with three friends for a two week kayaking trip through Glacier Bay, Alaska. It was a trip of a lifetime that was filled with snowy mountains, icebergs, bears, eagles, whales, and a lot of dry salami.  You can see some of my favorite photos from this adventure here.

After four great years of working at DivX, I have now transitioned to working at BitTorrent Inc.It is an exciting job that brings new challenges and responsibilities.  The job is also located in San Francisco, which means I am regularly commuting from ‘America’s Finest City’ to ‘The City by the Bay’.

Krystle quit her job at Starbucks and is now teaching full time. She is currently teaching middle school engineering while also instructing a journalism class out of the San Diego Central Library. She has also added a Math credential to her growing list of degrees. When she isn’t teaching, she can usually be found browsing Pintrest and planning her next big craft project.

In our free time, we have enjoyed indulging our artisanal ambitions by taking up the art of roasting coffee beans and brewing craft beer. The result has been very rewarding…and by rewarding I mean delicious. I also was able to help my good friend Kevin Blaine complete his album that I recorded drums on. You can find it here.

Krystle and I recently celebrated four years of marriage. We had the great fortune of being able to celebrate this milestone at a restaurant that has eluded us over the years:  Club 33. We donned our big-boy and girl clothes and pretended to be adults for an entire evening. As we look back over the past four years we can honestly say that we are overwhelmed by the blessings that have been given to us. After four years we can honestly call San Diego “home,” and we could not be happier with the community and friends that we have found here. At the same time we miss our friends who are scattered across the globe, and it is a great joy whenever we are able to catch up.

Merry Christmas (yup, we said it)

P.S.  My Dad recently started his own photobooth business (www.frentertainment.com) and was kind enough to let us take some Christmas photos in them.
